One Day at the Beach – Ein Tag am Strand

The series „One Day at the Beach“ examines the relationship between humans and nature through the lens of the shoreline. Sand, shells, and washed-up debris are meticulously documented, with discarded everyday objects such as plastic bags, bottle caps, and cigarette butts which are now appearing as „normal“ as natural materials. The works, however, primarily aim to show which elements are immediately recognized and categorized by us: chiefly human-made objects, while pure natural materials increasingly feel unfamiliar. In this way, the series reflects a shift in perception and order within the relationship between humans and the natural world.

Since this represents, in the truest sense, a “dislocated” state, the circle is, as typical of Stephanie Hüllmann’s work, intentionally placed off-center on the canvas.

Die Serie „Ein Tag am Strand“ untersucht die Veränderung unseres Verhältnisses zur Natur anhand der Strände. Sand, Muscheln und angeschwemmte Fundstücke werden präzise dokumentiert, wobei weggeworfene Alltagsgegenstände wie Plastiktüten, Kronkorken oder Zigaretten heute ebenso präsent sind wie natürliche Objekte. Die Arbeiten wollen jedoch vor allem zeigen, welche Elemente von uns unmittelbar erkannt und zugeordnet werden können: es sind vor allem die menschengemachten Dinge, während reine Naturmaterialien uns zunehmend fremd sind. Damit reflektiert die Serie die Verschiebung von Wahrnehmung und Ordnung in der Beziehung zwischen Mensch und Natur.

Da es sich hiermit um einen im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes „ver-rückten“ Zustand handelt, ist der Kreis, wie so oft in der Kunst Stephanie Hüllmann´s, nicht mittig auf der Leinwand angeordnet.
